Statue Puzzle Room

Description

This was the very first room to be completed, so it kind of set the tone for the rest of the plot.

It also took forever.

For the longest time, I couldn't really think of how to do the room. I knew I wanted pillars, and I knew how I wanted the statue to look, but I didn't know how to make it more interesting. Then some part of me (a self-loathing part, apparently) thought, "Oh, I know! A mosaic! And latticework!" Nevermind that I've never really drawn either (hell, I've never even drawn the interior of a building like this.) It was at least a learning experience (and I found that mosaics can be done kind of easily) but it was still a pain.

Anyway, for the puzzle itself, you had to rearrange the arms so that each of the poses of the small statues fit on this large one, and when you did it, you got an artifact that would later help open a very large door. You can see the plaque here [link] and the closeups of the statues here [link] .

24 arms were drawn up. The image had well over 99 layers (I had to keep merging them in order to keep working.) Since there were so many elements I hadn't drawn before, it was quite time-consuming. And when the puzzle was released, it lasted maybe five minutes.

It's just kind of funny to think of all that work for such a small amount of time looking at it, but I do think it was worth it. This was the first room that people were going to see, so I felt it needed to be pretty eye-catching, and I think I succeeded.

The only thing I'm not fond of is the bottom of the dress wrap thing. Just looks a bit like a diaper. Also not completely happy with the latticework or some of the other background elements, but those are relatively minor things, I think.
